UMESHU | Information in Japan
Last Monday was a national holiday in Japan, the health-sport day: many events were organized in Tokyo for this day.
Most of this events were actually not related to sports but to Japanese culture and traditions, so some friends and I decided to join a umeshū, Japanese plum liquor, degustation in a temple close to Ueno.
The day was absolutely wonderful and many people joint the event. After buying some ‘fake’ coins at the entrance to pay the drinks, we tasted about 18 different Japanese plum liquors. In particular, umeshū is a Japanese liqueur made by steeping plums while they are still unripe and green in alcohol and sugar.
Its taste is sweet and sour taste, and it has an alcohol content of 10–15%.
I personally don’t like alcohol that much and I cannot drink Japanese alcohol (nihonshū) but I love the taste and the aroma of umeshū. We also tried weird umeshū, like some mixed with green Tea and warm water.
This experience was pretty interesting and fun, I strongly suggest to try umeshū and not only the most common nihonshū, you won’t be disappointed!
